Superintendent Diego Ochoa

Superintendent Ochoa came to the district in June 2021. He has led the district in establishing a 5-year Strategic Plan involving over 70 stakeholders representing teachers, staff, administrators, labor partners, parents, and community organizations. Along with the School Board, Superintendent Ochoa debuted new strategies to improve districtwide communication including; launching the oneSMFC podcast, revamping the district’s websites, introducing Board/Community Workshops, and creating Youtube Livestream events. In 2021-2022, the district also came to multi-year contract agreements with both bargaining partners ensuring pay raises for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. Ochoa said, “We are extremely fortunate to have the best teachers, staff, and administrators working on behalf of our students.”

A new data accountability system was expanded, new math pathways were adopted to facilitate more access to Algebra in 8th grade, and employees were provided trauma-informed practices training. Superintendent Ochoa also worked with labor partners to increase access to professional development for staff. “I’m excited because we greatly increased access to professional growth by implementing a paid 5-day summer professional development program for teachers.”
