California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS)
CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY (CHKS)
To help monitor the safety and supportiveness of our school environments, SMFCSD regularly administers the California Healthy Kids Survey. This tool is supported by the California Department of Education to help districts meet Local Control Accountability Plan priorities to improve school climate, pupil engagement, parent involvement, and academic achievement. It provides measures of these important areas for informing improvement efforts:
- Student connectedness, learning engagement/motivation and attendance
- School climate, culture and conditions
- School safety, including violence perpetration and victimization/bullying
- Physical and mental well-being (including tobacco/drug use) and social-emotional learning
- Student supports, including resilience-promoting developmental factors (caring relationships, high expectations and meaningful participation)
