San Mateo-Foster City School District is committed to ensuring multilingual families can access information and communicate with schools in their preferred language. Translation and interpretation services support clear, accurate communication so families can stay informed and engaged in their child’s education.

The district provides language support in languages that represent a significant portion of the school community, including Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese, and makes every effort to support additional languages as needed. Schools can also access on-demand interpretation to communicate with families in real time.

Families can also use technology tools, such as the Google Translate app, to support communication with school staff wherever they are. If you need language support, please contact your school for assistance.

Google Gemini - Google Gemini can help families translate text, ask questions in their preferred language, and better understand school information in a conversational way.

ChatGPT - ChatGPT can support families by translating messages, explaining school terms, and helping rewrite questions or responses in a clear and friendly way.

DeepL - DeepL is a translation tool that can provide natural-sounding translations, especially for longer messages, documents, or school communication.

Canva - Canva can help families and staff create translated flyers, invitations, and visual materials that are easy to read and share.

Google Docs - Google Docs can translate documents into different languages and make it easier for families to read, edit, and share translated school information.

Microsoft Word - Microsoft Word includes translation tools that can help families translate written documents, letters, or forms directly within the document.

*Please note: These tools can be helpful for understanding general information, but translations may not always be perfect. For important school documents, meetings, or decisions, families can request official translation or interpretation support from the school or district.

The San Mateo-Foster City School District has technology resources available for all students. This included Chromebooks for each student, Hotspots to provide access to the internet, and issuing replacements.

The district has Community Services Specialist that can assist with set up for at home learning interventions like Footsteps2Brilliance or ST Math. In addition, they can assist with mobile HotSpot replacement, or issuing a new Chromebook.
