According to the California Department of Education (CDE), our schools are required to support our English/ Multilingual Learners to meet the following goals:

Ensure that English learners acquire full proficiency in English rapidly and effectively to attain parity with native speakers of English.
Ensure that English learners achieve the same rigorous grade-level academic standards that are expected of all students.

Integrated & Designated ELD

Integrated & Designated ELD

Integrated ELD is provided throughout the school day and across all subjects by all teachers of multilingual learners. The CA ELD Standards are used in tandem with the CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy and other content standards (math, science, social science, physical education) to ensure students strengthen their abilities to use English as they simultaneously learn content through English.

Designated ELD is provided by skilled teachers during a protected time during the regular school day. Teachers use the CA ELD Standards as the focus to develop the critical language ELs need for content learning in English. Students should receive 30 minutes per day of designated ELD time during the school day. Both Designated and Integrated ELD are required by State and Federal Education Code.
