Immigrant Youth & Families

At SMFCSD, we strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students and families, regardless of birthplace or immigration status. We are a sanctuary school district, and as such, we are committed to protecting the rights of every student and ensuring that they have access to a quality education without fear or discrimination.

Please see the board resolution for more information.

We understand the difficulties and uncertainties our immigrant families are faced with, and we are committed to providing the support and resources necessary to help them thrive. Our goal is to ensure that every family feels empowered, informed, and embraced within our community.

This page provides information and resources to help support our immigrant students and families.

Letter from the Superintendent:

Dear SMFCSD Community,
Our role as a school district is to ensure we are creating a safe and supportive environment for all students. Our district is proud to serve an extremely diverse population that represents students with linguistic and cultural heritage from around the world.

As a new federal administration takes office next week, we recognize the heightened fear and uncertainty immigrant youth, their families, and the communities that support them are experiencing. As a district, we are affirming our board-approved Resolution No. 05/17-18, which outlines our shared beliefs and protections for undocumented students and school district members.

Since November 2024, our district has been planning a comprehensive response to the realities of the federal immigration enforcement changes that lie ahead. We also acknowledge that California is a state that prioritizes safe schools, student confidentiality, and non-discrimination. Our state Department of Education and our state leaders are also signaling strong support for increased protections for immigrant students, and some new legislation is currently being processed.
