At the San Mateo-Foster City School District, family input is at the heart of how we make decisions that affect our Multilingual Learners. The District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) serves as a space where families, staff, and community members come together to advise the district on programs, services, and policies that support English Learners.

Building on DELAC’s role, the Sanctuary Task Force (STF) extends this work by focusing on the unique needs of immigrant, refugee, and newcomer families. While DELAC ensures that English Learners’ academic and language development needs are met, STF addresses the broader social, emotional, and community supports that help families feel safe, connected, and empowered.

Together, DELAC and STF form a bridge between families and the district by amplifying parent voices, advocating for equity, and creating welcoming spaces where cultural and linguistic diversity are celebrated as strengths. In participating, families help shape district priorities, ensuring that every child and family has the opportunity to thrive.
