Education Services
The Education Services department supports SMFCSD schools in providing a high-quality educational program for all students. The department's work is grounded in the district's Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles. In collaboration with other district departments, Education Services provides program support to schools, coordinates professional development for district and site personnel, facilitates site improvement planning, directs state/federal and local assessments, manages the selection and distribution of instructional materials, and oversees the implementation of a wide range of district initiatives.
As California continues to implement the various content standards--Common Core State (CCSS), Next Generation Science (NGSS), English Language Development (ELD), History-Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, Visual and Performing Arts, etc.--the department works to constantly update district instructional materials, provide teachers regular professional development, and support schools in the shift to new assessment systems. In addition, Education Services plays a primary role in the annual development and review of the district's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), the district improvement plan that has been implemented along with the state's funding process, the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).
The Education Services department works collaboratively with other district departments including Student Services (which oversees Special Education), Technology Services, Human Resources, and Business Services to coordinate support for SMFCSD schools. The staff of Education Services are proud to serve the students and families of San Mateo and Foster City and are committed to ensuring excellent and equitable educational outcomes for all students.
