Facilities Master Plan for the New Decade

Input was sought from school communities in meetings held in January and February 2020 and through a Facilities Needs Survey that was made available to all staff, parents and students.  After all facilities needs were identified, School Teams comprised of parents and staff made recommendations for their respective school sites about their immediate facility needs.

District staff and the consulting architect on the development of a new Facilities Master Plan for the District consolidated all of the needs, both Districtwide and site by site. Aedis Architects then developed cost estimates for each project. In total, over $850 million of facility needs in the next decade have been identified and included in the FMP.  Of that total, $450 million of Immediate Needs have been prioritized for implementation when sources of funding are secured. Please review this Summary of Immediate Priorities.

The Board of Trustees, in adopting the Master Plan for the New Decade, underscored the importance of the Plan and thanked all who were involved in its development, noting that it may be the first facilities master plan developed that resulted from both in-person meetings and virtual meetings.

The SMFCSD's Board of Trustees placed a bond measure for $409 million on the November 2020 ballot to provide the major funding for the Immediate Priorities in the Facilities Master Plan.  The bond measure, Measure T, passed with a 64% yes vote, substantially more than the minimum 55% yes vote needed.  In March 2021, the first of several bond sales was held to fund the projects that are in the implementation or planning phases now.  Please see the Measure T Status of Implementation Highlights, February 4, 2021.
