Technology Use Task Force

Tech Use Task Force Banner

The San Mateo–Foster City School District is establishing the Technology Use Task Force (TUTF) to examine how technology can best support learning, development, well-being, access, and responsible participation in a digital world. Over seven months, our diverse community will study current research, examine district practices, and develop evidence-informed recommendations for the Board of Trustees to consider for implementation beginning in 2027–28.

Why this Work Matters

As technology becomes increasingly integrated into education, we need to thoughtfully examine:

  • Is a particular use of technology developmentally appropriate, educationally purposeful, equitable, safe, and consistent with the experience we want for every learner?
  • How should we create age-related parameters and define developmental readiness?
  • When does technology enhance learning and when do other experiences—conversation, movement, hands-on learning, play, collaboration—offer greater benefit?
  • How can we ensure students receive explicit instruction in digital citizenship and responsible technology use?
  • How can we create districtwide coherence so that expectations are understandable, implementable, and equitable across all schools?

TUTF is not being formed to defend current practice or to validate a predetermined outcome. This is a balanced, transparent process designed to examine these questions carefully with perspectives from across our community.
