AI Working Group

Artificial Intelligence in Education

The AI Working Group is focused on building a strong foundation for how AI can be used across the district. This includes:

• Developing Board Policy and Administrative Regulations related to AI
• Creating district guidance for evaluating and working with AI tools and vendors
• Establishing clear expectations for instructional use of AI by staff and students
• Identifying future professional learning needs for educators once policy recommendations are finalized

This work is part of a thoughtful planning process designed to ensure alignment with the district’s Strategic Plan and community priorities.

To reflect multiple perspectives, the working group includes 26 representatives from across the SMFCSD community:

• 11 parents
• 7 teachers
• 5 students
• 3 administrators

This balanced representation helps ensure recommendations consider classroom learning, student voice, family expectations, and operational needs.

Artificial intelligence is already influencing how students learn and how schools operate. By engaging students, families, teachers, and administrators together in this process, SMFCSD is taking a proactive approach to ensure AI supports:

• authentic learning experiences
• student voice and independence
• safe and responsible technology use
• strong instructional practice
• community trust and transparency

Updates will continue to be shared with the community as this work progresses.

District leadership will host virtual community meetings in September 2026 to share the AI Working Group's recommendations. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and encourage all families and community members to join the conversation. We will begin sharing more information about these meetings at the start of the next school year.
