SMFCSD SCHOOL BOARD "BY-TRUSTEE AREA" ELECTION SYSTEM
At the August 26, 2021 meeting of the Board of Trustees, the San Mateo-Foster City School District adopted Map 209 to establish by-Trustee Area Elections.
At their meeting on Thursday, June 10, 2021, the Board of Trustees of the San Mateo-Foster City School District (SMFCSD) approved a Resolution No. 34/20-21 affirming their intention to transition from at-large to a by-trustee area election system. Public hearings inviting the public to provide input are listed below.
Board members of the San Mateo-Foster City School District School Board are currently elected “at-large” meaning that candidates are required to reside within given areas of the cities of San Mateo and Foster City and the voters of the cities of San Mateo and Foster City elect the candidates to the Board. A “by-trustee area” election, wherein one candidate residing in each trustee area is elected by only the registered voters in that particular trustee area, ensures compliance with the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA).
