Paxton/Patterson: College and Career Ready Labs

During this course, students will experience what it is like to work in careers within a variety of areas. Students will do the work that professionals perform in the field. These experiences help students discover what they like and what they are good at, so they make informed career pathway decisions in high school and, possibly, beyond. Students explore 16-18 unique areas and conduct in-depth research into 2 careers within each unit. They discover the knowledge, skills and abilities that are required for specific jobs, experience what it is like to do some of the work involved and discover if they have an interest in that career area.

Our Goals

Our Goals with College and Career Ready Labs:

Allowing students (Ss) to broaden their horizons as to what kinds of careers are out there
Allowing Ss to see that not all interesting careers require a college education
Providing Ss the chance to see what they can earn in our area in a career they are interested in
Give Ss and chance to explore careers that may have never considered or even knew existed
Bolster Ss confidence in their future
Give hope to students who may have not seen themselves as having a path forward
Maybe changing a student’s mind about going to college
Exposing students to many varied occupations that can provide them with a great living wage
Challenge what they already think they are going to do with their lives
