Project Details

Due to upcoming modernization work and construction projects planned at other school sites within the District, SMFC has decided to use Knolls School as an interim housing campus for Fiesta Gardens International School (FGIS). In order to accommodate incoming students, the District has upgraded the campus prior to FGIS moving in.

Currently the campus consist of three (3) permanent classroom wings, which include 14 classrooms, two (2) kindergarten classrooms, library, and an administration office. Additionally there is a Large Group Instruction Building.

Upgrades consisted of providing a new fire alarm system for the entire campus, main electrical panel upgrades, and emergency lighting system. The concrete stairs were replaced and three (3) wheelchair lifts were installed. All classrooms received new carpet and paint. Additionally there was two (2) portable restroom building and eight (8) portable classroom buildings installed to accommodate all FGIS students.

The plans for the upgrades at Knolls School were approved by the Division of State Architects (DSA). The project was bid on June 16, 2011. The Board of Trustees (BOT) approved the Knolls ADA Upgrades and Transitional Housing Project on July 14, 2011. Construction started in July 2011. The construction was completed by October 2011.
